The Cambia Batten Clip supports the outer wall in a double-walled system.  This system creates a ventilated airspace between the framed inner wall and the finish rain screen wall. Proper overall design and construction techniques for this system are the builder's responsibleness.  In particular, the rain screen requires the post-obit:

  • Distance between studs cannot exceed 24" – Recommended spacing is xvi".
  • Installation of structural sheathing, such as plywood or Oriented Strand Board (OSB) to the framed wall system.
  • Application of cobblestone-impregnated building paper or house wrap over the wall sheathing to create a moisture bulwark and drainage plane.
  • Suitable furring strips such as Bandbox or Fir i×iii or marine class plywood ripped into 2 ½" strips.

*Furring strip systems increase convectional moisture removal

Convectional drying increases past dividing the airspace into vertical compartments (cavities or chimneys). Convection current velocities generate slightly lower air pressure inside the chimneys than outside. This force per unit area differential increases airflow through the organisation. Researchers named this the "stacking effect" and take shown it an of import machinery to remove moisture from the system.

The airspace lacks chimneys in a not-furring strip system. The wall surface is 1 continuous airspace and the stacking result is lost in non-furring systems. The benefits are as well lost, and these are considerable.
